Simple Linux Commands

In this assignment you will demonstrate that you can use basic Linux commands to navigate the HPC file system and work with files and directories. You will need to upload screenshots of your work to Moodle to receive credit for this assignment.

  1. Log in to HPC. In this assignment you must work at the command line using Linux commands to complete all of the activities.
  2. Use an appropriate Linux command to list the contents the directory /home/byurk/water_share. Take a screenshot of the output showing the entire terminal window (Mac) or MobaXterm window (Linux) and upload it to Moodle.
  3. Use an appropriate Linux command to create a new directory called RA005 in your home directory.
  4. Navigate into the directory you just created. Use an appropriate Linux command to show the path of the present working directory. Take a screenshot of the output showing the entire terminal window (Mac) or MobaXterm window (Linux) and upload it to Moodle.
  5. Copy the file RA005.txt from the directory /home/byurk/water_share to the directory RA005 that you just created. Use an appropriate Linux command to do this. If you are not already in the RA005 directory, navigate into that directory. Use an appropriate Linux command to list the contents of the directory (this should now include the file RA005.txt that you just copied). Take a screenshot of the output showing the entire terminal window (Mac) or MobaXterm window (Linux) and upload it to Moodle.
  6. Use an appropriate Linux command to show the contents of the file RA005.txt. Take a screenshot of the output showing the entire terminal window (Mac) or MobaXterm window (Linux) and upload it to Moodle.

Altogether, you should upload 4 screenshots to Moodle.
