Precalculus: A Study of Functions
and Their Applications
by
Todd Swanson, Janet Andersen, and Robert Keeley

“I think this manuscript has good mathematics presented in a manner that is consistent with how students learn.  It is a cohesive “story” about functions, not a series of vignettes.  It is a book that students can read, full of interesting problems and challenges.”

Precalculus: A Study of Functions and their Applications was published by Harcourt College Publishers and is now available from Brooks/Cole.

This innovative precalculus text incorporates real world applications, multiple representations of functions, the use of technology in the form of graphing calculators, and projects. Written in a conversational tone, it incorporates reading questions throughout the text to guide the students in their reading.  Linear, exponential, logarithmic, periodic, and power functions are introduced early in the text allowing the rest of the text to be organized around mathematical concepts rather than types of functions.
