Chapter 9: Tests of Significance
Part 1
We will be introduce the idea of tests of significance. We
will
be look at the anatomy of a test of significance. This
is a very important section. It lays the groundwork
for much of what we do for the rest of the semester. We will also
specifically look at test of significance for a single population
proportion.
Homework
- Read Sections 9.1 and 9.2
- Do exercises 1, 8, 17, 19, 22, 23, and 26 in Chapter 9.
- Do exercises 6 and 10 in the supplement on pages 67 and 68.
Part 2
In the second half of
Chapter 9 we will conduct significance tests for a
population mean. We will also cover some of the intricacies of
tests of significance. We will see how sample size plays a part
in the outcome of the test. We will go over some cautions
conducting tests of significance and talk about type I and type II
errors. We will see what these errors are
and the probability of their occurrence.
