Tim Pennings here. I am a professor of mathematics at Hope College. My professional interests are dynamical systems and infinity. With dynamical systems, I am turning my attention from discrete systems to continuous systems (involving differential equations) with the hope that I will be able to apply them to some modeling problems. My interest in infinity stems from my intrigue with the rich stuff that lies in the confluence of mathematics, physics, philosophy, and theology. I've written a paper, "Infinity and the Absolute: Insights into Our World, Our Faith, and Ourselves" which I use as the backbone of a senior seminar course that I teach at Hope. A post script file of this paper is available.
My nonprofessional interests include racquetball, ultimate frisbee , weightlifting, tennis, ping-pong, x-country skiing, biking, photography, vocal music, and guitar. Elvis has pictures of me and my dog. I hope to take up cooking as well, because I am getting tired of eating sloppy joes.
Visit my alternate web page which was prepared by my colleagues in honor of my 40th birthday. Ask me some time about my thoughts about chaos, or about the continuing adventures of my bike.
