Sample 4-Year Schedule Plans

The Mathematics Department has prepared sample 4-year schedule plans for each of our major and minor programs. These will hopefully be of help as you plan your program.

See the list of requirements for:

Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics:

The requirement for a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics is a plan of study designed in consultation with a departmental advisor, and includes a total of at least 34 credits in mathematics as follows:

  • MA 280, MA 331 and MA 341 must be included;
  • additional credits chosen from the following courses: MA 126, MA 131, MA 132, MA 231, MA 232, and all mathematics courses numbered above 300 except MA 323.

Bachelor of Science in Mathematics:

The requirement for a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics is a plan of study designed in consultation with a departmental advisor, and consists of at least 60 credits in the natural science division, including at least 39 credits in mathematics as follows:

  • MA 280, MA 331 and MA 341 must be included;
  • additional credits chosen from the following courses: MA 126, MA 131, MA 132, MA 231, MA 232, and all mathematics courses numbered above 300 except MA 323.

Mathematics Secondary Education Major:

The requirement for a Bachelor of Arts degree in mathematics for those intending to become middle school or high school mathematics teachers is a plan of study designed in consultation with a departmental advisor, and includes at least 34 credits in mathematics as follows:

  • MA 280, MA 311, MA 312, MA 321, MA 331, MA 341 and MA 351 must be included;
  • additional credits chosen from the following courses: MA 126, MA 131, MA 132, MA 231, MA 232, and all mathematics courses numbered above 300 except MA 323.
MA 323 must also be taken. This course counts as education credit, and therefore does not count toward the 33 mathematics credits.

Mathematics Elementary Education Major:

The requirement for a major in mathematics with elementary teaching emphasis is a plan of study designed in consultation with a departmental advisor, and includes a total of at least 34 credits in mathematics as follows:

  • Complete at least 4 additional credits selected from MA 207, MA 208 and GEMS courses centered on mathematical topics (GEMS 100 to 150).

Mathematics Secondary Education Minor:

The requirement for a minor in mathematics for those intending to become middle school or high school mathematics teachers is a plan of study designed in consultation with a departmental advisor, and includes 24 credits in mathematics as follows:

  • MA 231, MA 280, MA 311, MA 312, MA 321 and MA 351 must be included;
